The connecting functor extends the categorical equivalence \\(\\Gamma\\) between abelian unital lattice-ordered groups and MV-algebras, introduced in the present reviewer's article ``Interpretation of AF \\(C^*\\)-algebras in Łukasiewicz sentential calculus'' [J. Funct. Anal. 65, 15--63 (1986; Zbl 0597.46059)].   In this paper, the authors construct free products of unital lattice-ordered groups. Free products are also investigated in some varieties of GMV-algebras.   Free products in MV-algebras and in unital lattice-ordered abelian groups were shown to exist in the present reviewer's paper ``Free products in the category of abelian \\(l\\)-groups with strong unit'' [J.
