Let \\[ H u (x) = \\sum_{|\\alpha|,|\\beta|\\leq m} (-1)^{|\\alpha|} D^\\alpha (a_{\\alpha \\beta} D^\\beta u(x)) \\] with \\( a_{\\alpha \\beta} = \\overline{a_{\\beta \\alpha }} \\) complex valued, bounded and measurable functions in \\( \\mathbb{R}^N.\\) The author has already proved that, if \\(N> 2m,\\) the semigroup \\(e^{-H t}\\), defined on \\(L^2\\) for \\(t \\geq 0,\\) can be extended to a strongly continuous semigroup in \\(L^p\\) for \\(p\\in [q_c,p_c]\\) where \\(q_c^{-1} + p_c^{-1} = 1\\) and \\( p_c = 2N/(N-2m).\\) In this paper it is proved that this interval is sharp. The second problem is the following: Consider the contraction semigroup \\(e^{-(H_0 + V) t} \\) on \\( L^2 \\) for \\( t \\geq 0,\\) where \\(H_0\\) is a constant coefficient operator and \\(V \\geq 0\\) is a smooth potential.
