W. Shareshian} [Combinatorial properties of subgroup lattices of finite groups. Ann Arbor, MI: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (PhD Thesis) (1996)] where the problem of computing \\(\\mu(1,G) = \\mu_{\\mathcal{P}}(1,G)\\) where \\(\\mathcal{P}\\) is the subgroup lattice of a finite classical group \\(G\\) is considered. The work is also related to a well-known conjecture of \\textit{A. Mann} [Int. J. Algebra Comput. 15, No. 5--6, 1053--1059 (2005; Zbl 1098.20025)]. Let \\(G\\) be a PFG-group. Let \\(\\mu\\) be the Möbius function on the lattice of open subgroups of \\(G\\). The number \\(|\\mu(H,G)|\\) is bounded by a polynomial function in the index \\(|G:H|\\) of \\(H\\) in \\(G\\) and the number of subgroups \\(H\\) of \\(G\\) of index \\(m\\) with \\(\\mu(H,G) \\not= 0\\) grows at most polynomially in \\(m\\). In [J. Group Theory 27, No. 2, 275--296 (2024; Zbl 07812017)], the second author uses Theorem 4.5 to handle a special case of this conjecture.","citation":[{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q6122749"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q2605845"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q3996618"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q3584491"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q3379483"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q3748279"}]},"provenance":{"prov:generatedAtTime":"2026-03-27T11:59:18Z","prov:wasAttributedTo":"MaRDI Knowledge Graph"}}
