Bérenger} [J. Comput. Phys. 127, No. 2, 363--379 (1996; Zbl 0862.65080)] the author proposed a new layer method called ``perfectly matched layer'', PML, for electromagnetism. This new method is based on the truncation of the computational domain by a layer which absorbs waves regardless of their frequency and angle of incidence. Unfortunately, this technique proposed by Bérenger leads to a system which has lost the most important properties of the original one: strong hyperbolicity and symmetry. Here the author proposes an algebraic technique leading to a PML model, strongly well-posed, preserving the advantages of the initial method and retainig symmetry. Moreover, the model uses primitive variables unlike the Bérenger model. The model is similar to the model obtained in \\textit{J. S. Hesthaven} [J. Comput. Phys. 142, No. 1, 129--147 (1998; Zbl 0933.76063)]. The method can be generalized to other hyperbolic problems.","citation":[{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1819092"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1169369"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1339541"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1276222"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q808204"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q3982741"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1289124"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q2564471"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1157121"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4692703"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4218624"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4943932"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4257937"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4509372"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4518071"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q4383836"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q686592"},{"@id":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/entity/Q1375500"}]},"provenance":{"prov:generatedAtTime":"2025-07-04T12:58:43Z","prov:wasAttributedTo":"MaRDI Knowledge Graph"}}
