The authors consider various combinatorial covering properties such as Hurewicz, Scheepers, and Menger covering properties. They show, for instance, that every group remainder that is Hurewicz is \\(\\sigma\\)-compact, that a similar statement for Scheepers remainders is independent of ZFC, or that it is consistent that every topological group remainder whose square is Menger is \\(\\sigma\\)-compact.
